About the film
It's a tiki party!
Donn Beach, the man who launched the tiki bar concept in mid-century America, spent years embellishing the details of his extraordinary life. This documentary attempts to separate fact from fabrication with the help of the people who knew him, historians, puppets(!) and recently resurfaced audio recordings of Donn himself. Wherever the truth lies, it’s an intoxicating treat exploring the astonishing legacy of "Polynesian Pop" that Donn left behind.
Join us before the screening to explore a trove of Tiki mugs, menus and other treasures, starting at 5:30. Screening starts at 6:30pm. And be sure to hit up Stranger Factory Art Gallery in Algodones from 4 to 6 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 29 for the closing of the "Cannibal Hula Girls and the Tiki Massacre" exhibit!
