About the film
Including a Q & A with Screenwriter James V. Hart (Contract, Coppola's Dracula, August Rush). Last year Jim Hart regaled us with his warm hearted, family film August Rush.
This year, Jim is returning with another great family film Muppet Treasure Island where he will discuss how he went from writing for Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman and Julia Roberts in Spielberg‘s Hook to writing for Kermit, Miss Piggy and a motley assortment of Muppets along with Tim Curry as Long John Silver in this charming adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson‘s classic adventure novel. And if your kids want to know what it's really like to work with the muppets and to write scenes and dialogue that capitalize on their unique brand of humor - now's their chance!
Directed by Jim Henson's son (who took the reins of his father's empire), the film finds Kermit and his colleagues going up against ruthless pirates. Having heard the legend of Captain Flint's massive treasure, young cabin boy Jim Hawkins, along with The Great Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat set out on a frantic search on a mysterious island. Accompanied by Squire Trelawney (Fozzie Bear) and Captain Smollett (Kermit the Frog), Jim and his friends finally get their own taste of adventure. But they soon uncover a sinister plot by a band of villainous pirates who seek the treasure for their own led by the ship's devious cook Long John Silver (Tim Curry). Once on the island, they find it is full of danger including an inhabitant named Benjamina Gunn (Miss Piggy).
